Reporter Daniel LeBlanc accepts the 2002 Michener Citation of Merit on behalf of The Globe & Mail presented by Governor General Adrienne Clarkson.

The newspaper was honoured for disclosing and reporting on favouritism and waste in Public Works and Government Services Canada.

The award was presented during a ceremony held at Rideau Hall, Ottawa, April 10, 2003.

Each year, the Governor General has honoured Michener Award and Fellowship winners at a Government House ceremony. Each of Roland Michener's successors has graciously adopted and maintained a personal interest in the Michener Awards Foundation and its commitment to Canadian journalism excellence.
