His Excellency John Ralston Saul, presents the 2001 Michener-Deacon Fellowship to Martine Turenne, a reporter with L'actualité magazine.

The Montreal journalist will study the impact of NAFTA on an underdeveloped region of Mexico. Ms Turenne accepted the Fellowship during a ceremony held at Government House on May 24, 2001.

The Michener-Deacon fellowship is awarded annually to a deserving recipient and helps to advance education in the field of journalism and serves the public interest through the promotion of values that benefit the community.
